Improving diversity and inclusion in research

Versiti, in collaboration with Kantar, supported the MRS in mapping the state of diversity, inclusion, and equity (DI&E) in the market research sector. The project also aimed to uncover any disproportionate effects of COVID-19 on the data, research and insight industry, and to establish a baseline for tracking future progress.

A tailored survey explored various dimensions of DI&E in the market research sector.

The report highlighted critical issues for the sector, including pay equity, the role of inclusion in staff retention, and the pandemic's impact on freelancers and those in micro-businesses.

It revealed stark differences in perceptions and experiences between older, white, straight, non-disabled men and women or colleagues from visible minority groups.

The study also highlighted significant progress for LGBTQ+ researchers and a strong desire for change, particularly among younger professionals in the industry.
